• In honor of Black History Month, the Fort Worth ISD is celebrating local and national African American trailblazers of the past, present and future on all District platforms.

Throughout February, we will celebrate the contributions of Black Americans in education, music, entertainment, politics and much more on the District website and social media channels.

The annual observance, officially known as African American History Month or Black History Month, was originally established in 1926 by author and historian, Dr. Carter G. Woodson.

For 50 years, the acknowledgment of Black history was a weeklong observance. In 1976, the United States bicentennial, the week was expanded to a month-long celebration.
