I.M. Terrell alumnus James I. Cash is one of five basketball players to have his number retired at TCU, taught at the Harvard Business School for decades, has served on the board of several Fortune 500 companies, and is a part owner of the NBA’s Boston Celtics.
Dr. Cash was the first Black scholarship athlete in the Southwest Conference when he joined TCU’s basketball team in 1965. He has a building named after him on campus at the Harvard Business School. Dr. Cash believes planned action is most important when it comes to addressing systemic racism. “Talking about race alone does not address the underlying systems and structures that cause systemic racism,” Cash said. “Development of a plan of action provides an important discussion of ‘doing vs. talking.’”
