Yearlong Teacher Residencies

  • For the 2023 - 2024 school year, the Fort Worth Independent School District has 55 paid yearlong teacher residents from four universities. The District is currently partnering with Tarleton State University, Texas Tech University, Texas Christian University, and Texas Wesleyan University to support yearlong residencies. Students selected for this program were awarded a stipend for their role as yearlong teacher residents. Unlike the traditional student-teacher model that encompasses one semester, the yearlong residency approach allows a teacher candidate to work with their cooperating teacher as co-teachers. This provides the teacher candidate with more instructional experience in a classroom, better preparing them to serve students as independent, fully certified teachers.

The goal of this program is for the teacher candidate to get fully vested in the culture of the campus and the District. After successful completion of the yearlong residency, the aim of the program is to transition students to full-time ÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ´óÈ« teachers.

ÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ´óÈ« is planning to expand the scope of the yearlong teacher residency program in the future.
