Frequently Asked Questions

    1. How do I become a student?
      To enroll in the program, you must sign up for the registration and assessment testing using our online link/QR code or by contacting the call center at 817-402-7555. Our students are served on a first-come, first-served basis. To become a student, you must complete the entire registration and testing process. If you are returning to the program after a 90+ day absence, you will need to attend registration again. During registration, you will take an educational assessment and learn about the program and the requirements.
    2. How long do I have to attend class before I can take my High School Equivalency Exam?
      Every student is different. The amount of study needed to master the HSE exam varies.  Our specially trained and highly qualified instructors will provide you with the skills needed to become successful in the accomplishment of your goals. Once our instructors determine that you are ready to take the HSE exam, they will help you register for your test.
    3. What is expected of students?
      When you enroll, you must commit to attend class.  You must attend regularly and adhere to Fort Worth ISD Adult Education rules, regulations and policies. To remain active in your class, you must take periodic in-person progress tests throughout the semester. These tests are not pass/fail or letter graded. Instead, they simply show whether you are currently making progress in your learning. If not, it may be a signal that you need additional support or perhaps even a different class.
    4. Can I register for classes online or over the phone?
      No, registration must be in person only and on a first-come, first-served basis at the class site during the scheduled registration dates for the class.  If you miss registration, you may be placed on a waiting list and you will be contacted when space becomes available.
    5. Where do I take the HSE test?
      There are  where you can take your test. 
    6. What is the GED certificate?
      The first GED tests were developed in 1942 by the United States Armed Forces Institute for military personnel returning from World War II.  It was only given to military personnel and contained concepts associated with completion of high school.  The original purpose of the GED test was to document the attainment of high school skill levels for military service members whose academic goals were disrupted by the war.  The GED test has evolved since then and is now used by the general population as an alternative to the traditional high school diploma document.  about the GED website for further information about the Texas GED test.
