Fort Worth ISD Trustees Approve New Racial Equity Resolution
The Fort Worth ISD Board of Education has taken another bold step against systemic racism by approving through a resolution a significant statement developed by the District’s Racial Equity Committee regarding social justice and the dismantling of systemic racism.
In February, 2016 the Board approved the creation of the Racial Equity Committee for the purpose of fighting against systemic racism directly. The committee developed a policy that declares “the responsibility of addressing these disparities [institutional racism] among students rests with the adults, not with the students.”
Now, the Racial Equity Committee has made a another bold statement for social justice with a call to identify and eliminate systems, policies and practices which perpetrate racism in our schools and community.
With a unanimous vote, the Board found that the Fort Worth ISD, with over 83,000 students and more than 11,000 employees, has the power and the duty to be part of the solution to dismantle institutional racism on behalf of the children they serve and the community in which we all live.
