ÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ´óÈ« Wants You to Know the Plan!

  • Preparations Underway for Forecasted Winter Weather

Whenever winter weather threatens the North Texas area, the Fort Worth ISD (ÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ´óÈ«) wants you to Know The Plan. ÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ´óÈ« is working ahead to mitigate winter weather risks by dispatching maintenance crews across the District to weather-proof more than 200 facility structures.

Crews are overriding temperature controls to keep schools and other structures warm 24/7 allowing them to remain warmer longer in the event of lost power. Additionally, irrigation systems are being shut off and cooling towers drained to prevent freezing.

To Determine if Classes will be Canceled or Delayed:

The assessment process begins at least 24 hours in advance of any approaching storm. Planning involves District Leadership, the Operations Division, Emergency Management, Transportation, Safety & Security, and Communications.

The ÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ´óÈ« Emergency Preparedness Office (EPO) will be in communication with the Fort Worth Police Department and Office of Emergency Management, and the Texas Department of Transportation. The EPO continually monitors radar and weather forecasts through contact with local and National Weather Service meteorologists.

The goal is to make a decision as to whether classes will be held no later than 5 a.m. The Chief of District Operations, using all of the collected information, confers with Superintendent Dr. Kent P. Scribner who makes the final decision.

If school is to be canceled or delayed, notices will immediately be posted to all District communication platforms including the District’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the District’s website, , crawled on our EdTV Channel (Charter Cable Channel 30 and AT&T U-verse Channel 99) and forwarded to local radio, television and newspapers. Resumption of classes is communicated through the same channels.

Everyone should have a plan for winter weather as well. The time to prepare is now!
