Collegiate Awareness, Exploration and Preparation

  • The District’s mission is to “prepare all students for success in college, career, and community leadership." This task, which moves in stages, encompasses students from elementary to high school.

We Believe ALL students are capable of choosing a path to post-secondary success with proper advising, exploration, and support.

Stage 1: Elementary School College Awareness

    During this stage:

    Start early.
No matter how young your student is, it is never too early to begin planning for college and talking with your student about it.

    Be clear.
Communicate your expectations to your student about his or her behavior and performance in school.

    Talk.
Have frequent conversations with your student about schoolwork, goals and the importance of education.

    Encourage.
Motivate your student to try new activities, volunteer in the community and succeed in school. Studies have shown that students involved in school activities enjoy school more and do better academically. Extra activities at school help students make new friends, gain confidence and new skills and have fun!

Stage 2: Middle School College Exploration

The middle grades are a crucial time to engage, or reengage, students and put them on a path to college and career success.  has demonstrated that grades, attendance, and engagement in middle school are strong predictors of high school graduation and postsecondary success.

In middle school, students should begin refining their career exploration to match their interests and abilities.

Stage 3: High School College Preparation

College preparedness refers to the set of skills, knowledge, and behaviors a high school student should have upon graduation and entering their freshmen year of college. It’s all about the ability to find success while studying at an institute of higher learning.
