Throughout March, Fort Worth ISD will celebrate Women’s History Month. This period is dedicated to honoring the impact women have had on the culture of our district and the city.
Women’s History Month originated as a weeklong celebration tied to International Women’s Day, on March 8, back in 1978. In 1987, Congress passed a law declaring all of March Women’s History Month.
The foundation of Fort Worth ISD exists because of women. The first superintendent of the district was a woman. Some of the first school leaders of the district were women. Today, women comprise over 70% of the district’s staff, serving in roles from the classroom to the boardroom and setting examples for girls in the district.
