Nearly 30 classroom exhibits celebrate Latino literature, role models, traditions and heritage at the 2021 Hispanic Student-Created Museum Project hosted at Fort Worth ISD’s Dolores Huerta Elementary School. 
The museum, which features pre-kindergarten through fifth grade student-produced exhibits, is open to visitors through Friday, October 22. Attendees will receive a museum guide about the 28 exhibits that recognize Hispanic children’s literature authors and illustrators; role models; cultural contributions to the United States; traditions and heritage.

Since 1990, the Hispanic Student-Created Museum Project has given elementary classroom teachers and their students an opportunity to research Hispanic traditions and culture, and the contribution of Latinos in American literature, science, history and the arts. Students take the knowledge they learn from their research to create exhibits that are featured in the school museum. Eddie Arellano, a Dolores Huerta Elementary first-grade teacher, is the Hispanic Student Created Museum Project’s founder and coordinator.
Students participating in this year’s museum project were recently presented with special certificates, and the top exhibits were awarded Most Creative, Most Informative, Most Imaginative, and Best of Show accolades by the school PTA.
The museum generally opens to visitors during Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed nationally September 15 to October 15. Visitors must schedule museum tour reservations and adhere to COVID-19 protocols. Museum attendees are strongly encouraged to wear masks.
