  • Dolores Huerta Elementary School serves northern Fort Worth near Meacham International Airport.  It is part of the Fort Worth Independent School District and has classes for Pre-Kindergarten through the fifth grade.  There are approximately 590 students enrolled in the school.  Carla Coscia is the principal.

    The school is named after Dolores Huerta, an advocate for American workers, immigrants and women's rights.  She, along with Cesar Chevez, was a co-founder of the National Farmworkers Association which later became the United Farmworkers.  She has received many awards including the Eugene V. Debs Foundation Outstanding American Award, the United States Presidential Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Human Rights, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  In 1993, she was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame.

    Ms. Huerta is known for the phrase, "Si, se puede!" which is translated, "It can be done!"
