Counselor's Corner
My name is Madeleine Savage and I’m happy to be at Alice Contreras this year as the campus Counselor.
I get to wear lots of different hats here at school! One of the most important things I get to do (and my favorite!) is to visit with students one-two times a month in their classroom. We read books/ do activities and talk about lots of different life skills when I visit! Most recently, we’ve talked about kindness and we brainstormed lots of different ways we can show kindness at school/ at home, etc. We worked on learning to give compliments and offered compliments to our friends and our teachers in class. This month we’re working on regulating emotions/ calming down when we’re upset. We’ve done some “Hot chocolate” breathing and have even talked about how we can change our perspective on things with some “Magic Sunglasses”. What fun!

Mi nombre es Madeleine Savage y estoy feliz de estar en Alice Contreras este año como consejera del campus.
¡Puedo usar muchos sombreros diferentes aquí en la escuela! Una de las cosas más importantes que puedo hacer (¡y mi favorita!) es visitar a los estudiantes una o dos veces al mes en su salón de clases. ¡Leemos libros, hacemos actividades y hablamos sobre muchas habilidades diferentes para la vida cuando lo visito! Más recientemente, hablamos sobre la bondad y pensamos en muchas formas diferentes en las que podemos mostrar bondad en la escuela, en casa, etc. Trabajamos para aprender a dar cumplidos y los ofrecimos a nuestros amigos y maestros en clase. Este mes estamos trabajando en regular las emociones/calmarnos cuando estamos molestos. Hemos respirado un poco con “chocolate caliente” e incluso hemos hablado de cómo podemos cambiar nuestra perspectiva de las cosas con unas “gafas de sol mágicas”. ¡Qué divertido!
