Barbara Ozuna holds a bachelor's degree in history from Texas Christian University and a master's degree in history from the University of North Texas. She taught 8th grade US History and 6th grade world cultures at William James Middle School before moving to Paschal High School where she taught AP World History, AP European History, AP Human Geography, and Pre-AP World Geography. She began the AP World History program for the Fort Worth school district in 2001, served as a College Board consultant in World History, and was active in the AP World History reading.  In 2008, Barbara became the academic coordinator at Paschal under the tutelage of Mr. John Hamilton.  In 2013, she became an assistant principal and the dean of instruction, overseeing curricular implementation in English, social studies, and world languages.  She also works with counselors on course sequencing and scheduling and with advanced academics on the vertical articulation between AP and pre-AP courses.  Occasionally, Barbara still gets to feel like she is a mom to two kids who are working and going to college.  She and her husband, Rene, look forward to the times everyone is together.

It is a great joy to be the principal of McLean Middle School.  Since Mrs. Ozuna matriculated through McLean in the early ’80s, it feels like being home.  The mission of McLean’s faculty, staff, and administration is to maximize the learning of all students and to help mold our 7th and 8th graders into happy, healthy, responsible students and community members.

  • I am thrilled to serve as an assistant principal at McLean Middle School.  Prior to this, I taught middle school math for 10 years and then served as an instructional coach for three years. I received my Bachelor’s in Visual Communication and my Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction both from the University of Texas at Arlington.

I love spending quality time with my husband, Chris, and our three children during my free time. I enjoy being in nature, buying too many plants, reading, crocheting, and loving our pets.

  • I graduated from Texas A&M in 1990 with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and from U.T. Arlington in 1999 with a Master’s degree in Education and Teaching. This will be my 30th year in education and my 18th year as assistant principal at McLean Middle School. I spent my first five years in education as a teacher/coach in West ISD. This was followed by three years as a teacher at J.T. Stevens Elementary and two years each as assistant principal at Daggett Middle School and Dunbar (Jacquet) Middle School in Fort Worth ISD.

My wife, Kathy, is a special education teacher in Fort Worth ISD and both of my sons attend school in Fort Worth ISD. My family and I enjoy spending our time together doing a variety of activities together, such as swimming, riding bikes, and going to the beach. We also enjoy watching our children play in the orchestra and participate in other activities.

Favorite quote: “Prepare our children for their future, not our past.”
