Readers Become Leaders

 

We are so proud of Ms. Van Ausdall's 3rd grade class for entering the Readers Become Leaders Competition, reading their hearts out and WINNING THE WHOLE District Competition!!!

 

The NCAA Readers Become Leaders program in the past two years had 41,000+ kids involved that read a total of 13.7 million minutes. The Readers Become Leaders program is part of the community outreach surrounding the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships which is set to take place at Dickies Arena April 16-17, 2021. The program is in partnership between Fort Worth Sports Commission, NCAA, Fort Worth Independent School District, and Scholastic.

This year’s program lasted 5 weeks and involved 22 schools, 2,149 students, and 148,124 total minutes were read. Ms. Van Ausdall’s class won with each student reading an average of 699 minutes during the program.

Her class received:

* $500 in Scholastic books for their classroom (provided by FW Sports Commission)

* Trophy presentation which will be aired on ESPN

* $100 gift card for a Pizza Party (provided by FW Sports Commission)

* $100 gift card for teacher (provided by FW Sports Commission)

* Scholastic Grab and Go packet for each student (3 books plus coloring book and supplies)

* Tickets for all kids + parent for NASCAR All Star Race June 13 at Texas Motor Speedway (provided by Texas Motor Speedway & FW Sports Commission)

* Appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog (Thanks to Ms. Kincade)
