What is the PTA?
PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association, but at Daggett Montessori we like to think of it as a FTA (Family Teacher Association) since our children’s lives aren’t just influenced by their parents, but their families as a whole. The PTA is a school-based organization with a mission to make the school a better place for children to learn. Parents of students work together with teachers to volunteer in classes, raise money for school programs and needs, and generally support the school's efforts. PTA members are volunteers, and help make things happen at DMS!
What does the PTA do?
- Part of creating the school family that helps to raise our kids and strengthen our community.
- Links families to important school and community information.
- Hosts fun, educational clubs, programs and events for our families.
- Raises money to support the specific needs of our school.
- Engages in school and digital safety initiatives.
- Inspires a love of reading and enhances students’ book and literary options.
- Encourages healthy lifestyles and food choices for every family.
- Tracks local, state and national policies every day so we can advocate for what’s best for our students, families and schools.
Why should you join the PTA?
- There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school and be a part of the planning of programs and events.
- Make friends in the Dragon family! Meetings and events are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind. You can share ideas, concerns, and experiences.
- By volunteering with your PTA, you put your skills and hobbies to use for a noble cause—your child and all children in the community.
- PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child’s school. You’ll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes. Play an important role by supporting building improvements through advocacy and play an important role in fundraising for curriculum based programs and social events.
- Be a role model to your child, by demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.

How do I join the PTA?
Research shows that children whose families are involved in their school excel both academically and socially and are overall better learners. Joining the PTA is a perfect way to be involved with every aspect of DMS! We would love to have as many PTA members as there are students in our school! Please join our PTA community, support our school and our children, and have a voice in the decisions we make. Membership has three levels: Basic ($5), Gold ($20) and Dragon ($40 and name listed on the donor wall). Each level receives a fun gift from the PTA, as well as the dues contributing to fundraising dollars for DMS! Keep an eye out for pickup instructions in DragonBytes! If you can’t pick them up, we will send the items home with your child. Every cent we raise is put right back into vital programs at our school. Many of these would not exist without your financial support.
