Quick Links and Important Information

Important Items to Note:

TRAFFIC / PARKING / PICK UP & DROP OFF:

1. No Parking in Staff Lots - Please do not park in the staff parking lots, even if you think it will only be for a moment.  Our teachers must be able to park their cars in the lots in the morning to be able to make it to their classrooms in time to meet your students for class.  We have had issues in the last few weeks with parents utilizing these lots.  Staff lots are located at the corner of Hemphill & Jessamine, Lipscomb and Jessamine and the driveway area on Lipscomb next to the playground.

2. The parking lots at the North West corner of Hemphill and Jessamine Street are no longer available to parents for parking to pick up or drop off students. In an effort to reduce traffic congestion and cars being towed we will begin asking ALL parents to not park on either side of Jessamine Street, observe the One-Way direction of this street and to please remain in their cars at pick up. We will direct our Middle School students to wait on the sidewalk all along Jessamine Street following the map below. Please pull up to the curb and pick up your student.  Middle School students with siblings in elementary may join them at their dismissal location on Lipscomb Street for a one stop pick up.  Please be patient as we maneuver our way through this issue. We understand the frustration and have observed the traffic congestion at these times of the day. We want to provide a safe and stress free experience and will try our best to accommodate everyone in a timely manner during dismissal.

3.  The Transportation department has asked that we kindly ask you to not park in the bus loading / unloading zone on West Jessamine Street in the mornings and afternoons for the safety of our bus riding students.  The hours of no parking are 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  This includes Jessamine Street between Lipscomb & Hemphill and the inlet/cut out parking area next to the Middle School building.  This is a bus loading zone and cars parked here (see below) during the posted times will be ticketed.

3.  Please familiarize yourself with the DMS Rainy Day aka Inclement Weather dismissal plan.  Anytime we experience rain, extreme cold or other inclement weather at dismissal, our campus will enact these procedures.  This plan is for the saftey of our students.  Please download and read through the procedure HERE.

4.  Please don't park within 30 feet of intersections/stop signs or crosswalks OR on Jessaming Street in the bus loading / unloading zones. There are street signs in place designating these NO PARKING areas.

5.  Please remember Jessamine Street is One-Way between 7:00-9:00 a.m.and 2:00-4:00 p.m.  In order for the new pick up / drop off procedure to be effective West bound traffic is not allowed.  Vehicles may travel East to Hemphill only.  Please adhere to traffic laws, keep your eyes on the road and off the phone, watch for students and be kind to other drivers.

6.  Please do not block access to our neighbor's driveways. Even a small portion of your vehicle will prohibit someone from getting to and from their property.

7.  The Angel Montessori lot on Page Street is a private parking lot. Please do not utilize for parking or drive thru.  For the safety of everyone involved, we appreciate your attention and cooperation.

CAMPUS HOURS OF OPERATION / ENTERING - EXITING CAMPUS:

The DMS campus does not open until 7:30 a.m.  Students who arrive before this time need to report to the cafeteria through the gate by the Main Office.   The Cafe is the only area on campus with adult supervision available for children before 7:30 a.m.  Please do not enter the building through the Lipscomb entrance before this time or at any other time during the school day.  Regardless of whether a DMS employee is entering the building at that entrance or if you have an ISD employee badge, we ask that you please enter through the gate on Jessamine Street during these early hours of the day and check in through the Main Office while visiting your student for lunch or a teacher for conference.  This is for the security and safety of our students and staff.

Parents are welcome to accompany their child to the cafeteria between 7:20-7:30. At 7:30, students will be dismissed from the cafeteria to the elementary Gymnatorium or the playground at which time adult supervision is available in both areas. Opening ceremonies begin promptly at 7:40. We welcome all parents on campus at that time to join us as we begin our morning with announcements, the recitation of our pledges and our daily song. It is a great way to start the day!

ATTENDANCE INCENTIVES:

It is so important to be at school every day and on time! Encouraging regular attendance is one of the most powerful ways we can prepare children for success both in school and in life.

As educators and parents, we can prepare our children for a lifetime of success by making regular school attendance a priority.  The DMS faculty and staff appreciate all you do as parents and ask you to help us in reducing the amount of absenteeism on our campus.  We all want to see our students excel academically.  In an effort to increase student awareness we have created the following "Attendance Incentives":

  • Middle school students who have zero tardies to class will participate in a “No Tardy Party” at the end of each 6 weeks.
  • Each week classes and grade levels who attain a 96% attendance goal will be acknowledged during opening ceremonies, community meeting, and school web page.
  • Students attaining 97% attendance each 6 weeks will receive various prizes e.g. pencils, coupons, pins, ribbons, etc.
  • Students with perfect attendance each 6 weeks will receive a free dress pass or other incentive.
  • Students with perfect attendance at the end of the fall semester will receive various prizes e.g. DMS spirit wear, games, plus a snack party.
  • Students with perfect attendance each six weeks will have their name entered into a drawing for various EOY prizes e.g. bikes, skateboards, etc.
